Family: Woody, Chypre.
Top Notes: Iris, Cypress and Juniper Berries.
Heart Notes: Myrrh and Patchouli.
Base Notes: Oud / Woody Notes, Honey, Vanilla, Amber, Resins, Musk and Leather.
Woody: While floral scents are the norm for women’s fragrances, woody scents are the most popular base for men’s colognes. There is a wide range of scents, with patchouli and sandalwood being good examples of warmer woods. Woods are often combined with other aromatic top notes to create more complexity – for example, citrus or chypre.
Chypre: Chypre perfumes are by definition always woody.
They are generally based on the raw materials: oakmoss, bergamot, patchouli, cistus labdanum, rose and jasmine.
In contemporary chypre perfumes, oakmoss and cistus labdanum have been replaced by patchouli for more intense scents.
Generally discreet at the heart, but intense at the base, chypre perfumes are worn with elegance and distinction.
